In Memoriam

It is with deep sorrow that we share with friends and supporters of the Park Theater Trust that our highly esteemed fellow TPTT Board member and friend, Awais Saeed Mughal, passed away on December 15, 2023, after a brief battle with an aggressive illness. He was only 53 years old.

A 22-year resident of Lafayette, Awais joined TPTT’s Board of Directors in 2019 and immediately took on the role of negotiating the ultimately successful purchase of the Park property on behalf of the community. Along with fellow Board member Larry Haydon, Awais led the search for our construction team and then was asked by the Board to oversee architectural planning and design.

The loss of Awais Mughal leaves a huge void to his family, his friends, his community. He was a gentle spirit, a quiet yet powerful force for good, and he will be sorely missed. Our hearts go out to his wife, Sonya, his children, Emma and Dylan, and the rest of his family.

Despite his extremely busy professional obligations, Awais was dedicated to the rebirth of the Park Theater. He embraced his role as a fellow volunteer with enthusiasm, energy, and a quiet calm that positively influenced many critical decisions. His quick wit, dry sense of humor, professional expertise, and thoughtful perspectives made him an invaluable member of our TPTT team.
